Petar Ivanović - Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development


Petar Ivanović was born in 1965. He completed high school in the USA as one of the first participants in the student exchange program. He graduated in 1992, received master degree in 1995 and PhD degree in 2004. The area of specialization is Futures Markets – Futures and Options. Dr Ivanovic attended several professional trainings: Eastern Michigan University, University of Sterling, University of Glasgow, USIS VIP Program - Privatization in USA, EU VIP Program… and participated in over 80 international conferences, most of which he had presented his papers and researches at.

He has been full time employed since he was eighteen. Before being appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Ivanovic worked as a CEO of the Montenegrin Investment Promotion Agency (since MIPA was established in 2005 until 2012). He served as a Vice-President and board member of Hypo-Alpe-Adria Bank (2007-2008). He worked as Chief Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Montenegro, H.E. Milo Djukanovic (2009-2010). He was the member of the Board of directors of UTIP Crna Gora, brokerage house Monte Adria Broker and NEX Stock Exchange.

 In the period from 1992 to 2007 Dr Ivanovic was professor at the University of Montenegro (School of Economics). Since 2007 he is professor at the University of Donja Gorica (UDG). He is the member of the Committee for Economic Science of Montenegrin Academy of Arts and Science.

 Dr Ivanovic is one of the founders of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (1993), G-17 Group (1997), Institute for Strategic Studies and Prognosis (1998), Montenegro Business Alliance (2001) and AmCham Montenegro (during 2008-2009 he served as the first Vice-President). He has managed over 40 international projects mostly in Montenegro, but also in Afghanistan and Kosovo and over 100 research projects.

Dr Ivanovic is honorary citizen of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. He is a member of several distinguish international organizations such as The Philadelphia Society, The Mont Pelerin Society, The Global Development Network and The Montenegrin Association of Economists. He is on the List of Experts of the Heritage Foundation. Dr Ivanovic has published 2 books, 1 textbook and more than 100 papers. He owns a certificate for trade futures.

He actively played volleyball and basketball. He served as a president of Tennis Association of Montenegro. He speaks English and Italian. He is married and has got two children.
